U.S. NGO, Think Tanks and Foundations

The Afghanistan-American Foundation:   the Afghanistan - America Foundation serves as a vehicle for partnership between Afghans, Americans and others in the international community who wish to bring peace, stability, and prosperity to Afghanistan. It fosters public and governmental understanding regarding Afghanistan and its people.

Brooking Institution: Project on Terrorism and American Foreign Policy. The project will present an ongoing series of briefings on various aspects of the crisis, analytical publications ranging from short 2,000-word papers to full-length books, and a large and growing website containing background resources, full texts of relevant government documents, and archived video, audio, and printed transcripts of Brookings events.  While not focused exclusively on Afghanistan this site contains a wealth of information on the broad range of issues including Afghanistan.

Center for Strategic and International Studies: Contains extensive full text material on the U.S. and South Asia, Islamic Roots of Democratic Pluralism, Campaign Against Terrorism, Homeland Defense and much more.

Council on Foreign Relations: Contains extensive materials on America’s response to terrorism, a media guide to policy experts and responses to the attacks from the members of the Council’s International Advisory Board. 

Rand Corporation: RAND has a number of ongoing and recent efforts, as well as resources and materials that address the issue of domestic terrorism.  Includes links to resource materials on the National Advisory Panel to Assess Domestic Response Capabilities for Terrorism (also known as the Gilmore Commission), historical materials on Afghanistan, terrorism, and commentary by Rand experts on the issues.

Afgha.com: Appears to be the official website of the United Front Northern Alliance.

Afghanistan Online, Today’s News: an opposition comprehensive website. 

Afghanistan News net: a website affiliated with the Hezb Islami party.

Azadi Afghan Radio: Azadi Afghan Radio is currently being broadcast in the Washington D.C. and San Francisco Bay Area, home to about 100,000 Afghans.  Contains a news archives of both audio and printed materials. 

Hezb Alislami Afghanistan:  Hekmatyar official website Contains information about this political party.   

Revolutionary Association of the Women Afghanistan (RAWA): Presents the Revolutionary Association of the Women of Afghanistan (RAWA), a political and social organization struggling for peace, freedom, democracy and women's rights, based in Quetta, Pakistan. Includes a photo gallery, RAWA documents, and general information on Afghanistan and women.

Women's Alliance for Peace and Human Rights in Afghanistan (WAPHA): WAPHA is a nonpartisan, nonprofit and independent organization founded by Zieba Shorish Shamley, Ph.D.  Its main goal is to promote awareness of the tragic human rights situation in Afghanistan and to advocate for social, political, economic and civil rights of the Afghan women and girls in that country. Gross violation of basic human rights continues to occur in Afghanistan.
